Kamloops Teen Dies at Kelowna Festival

Kamloops Teen Dies at Kelowna Festival

Jul 29, 2018 | 11:04 AM

A 17-year old Kamloops girl has died at the Center of Gravity music festival in Kelowna.

The girl went into medical distress Friday night.

Emergency crews were called about 9:00 PM Friday night for a medical emergency. They rushed the girl to hospital, but she later died.

A spokesman for the Festival said yesterday that the young female was treated onsite by emergency personnel before being transported to hospital, but could not be revived.

The Festival said it is cooperating with authorities in dealing with the issue. Interior Health later posted a warning that mixing drugs or using drugs while drinking puts you at an increased risk of an overdose.

That has led to speculation the girl died of an accidental overdose, but that hasn’t been confirmed at this time.

The B.C. Coroner’s service is now handling the investigation.

The teen’s family has been notified, and the Kelowna RCMP’s Victim Services Team is working to support them.

Police say they don’t believe there was any wrongdoing in the girl’s death.

The three-day festival wraps up today.
