Upgrade Of Coldstream Sewer Lift Station

Upgrade Of Coldstream Sewer Lift Station

Jul 25, 2018 | 6:38 AM

Coldstream Council has decided to keep a revamped Kalavista Sewer Lift Station at its current site at the boat launch on Kalamalka Lake.

The entire station needs to be replaced and the District had been thinking about moving it to the Log House property.

Mayor Jim Garlick says council didn’t want to take away other property.

“It’s actually park land. We have different hopes for it, that park land with the Log House on it on the opposite side.”

There’s also the visual impact of putting a lift station in park land.

Mayor Garlick doesn’t expect much of an impact on the boat launch.

“That boat launch is more or less limited by its size. And what’s happened is increased, larger boats have been coming in there. Probably what we’re going to have to do someday is limit who can launch at that boat site.”

Garlick says it isn’t big enough with a canal on one side and private property on the other.

He says keeping the lift station where it is will prevent the need for a redesign and won’t cause separation between it and Kalamalka Lake.

The upgrade will include a backup generator, which the current station does not.

The Mayor says the timing for the upgrade hasn’t been determined as staff is working on clearing out some other projects.

He says a contract would  probably be let in the fall with work to take place next year.
