Bylaw Could “Bee” Changed

There could be more bee colonies around Vernon, if a resident gets her way.

Dawn Tucker is asking council to consider allowing urban beekeeping in the city.

It’s currently allowed only in certain areas.

Tucker doesn’t think it would be a safety concern.

“Education is a big component. Unless honey bees have a reason to sting, they’re not stinging. People are standing close to the hives, they are not being swarmed or stung. Properly done, you can have a good balance between residents and bees.”
