A suspect in a standoff with police in Coldstream, has been sentenced in Vernon Provincial Court.

33 year old Kelly Blake Torvik held police at bay for 15 hours at his mother’s home on Torrent Drive before surrendering in February.

Police said at the time, the incident involved a distraught man who was armed with a gun.

A woman fled the scene before police arrived, believed to be Torvik’s mother, after she was assaulted.

He plead guilty to five charges including assault, uttering threats and three firearms offences.

“Judge Jeremy Guild approved of a joint submission from crown and defence which recommended an 18 month conditional sentence order, to be followed by a 12 month period of probation. He also received a 10 year ban on the possession of firearms,” says Dan McLaughlin from the BC Prosecution Service.
