Lumby Residents Asked to Look At Zoning

Lumby Residents Asked to Look At Zoning Amendments

Jul 23, 2018 | 7:12 AM

Lumby’s Mayor would like local residents to go to the village’s website and check proposed amendments to its zoning bylaw.

Kevin Acton says staff have put a lot of time and research into putting together a plan aimed at making the community a more inviting place to live.

“There are a ton of additions and changes to the bylaw allowing for coach houses, laneway houses, higher density housing in the downtown core, over top a commercial zone”

He says they’re hoping to maximize density in the downtown core but leave things as they are in the outer reaches where people want single-family lots and homes.

“Are you in favour of having a home in your neighbour’s backyard that sits on the lane. We want to make sure that people understand this bylaw through and through because it’s going to affect people’s neighbourhoods a little bit.”

The amendments also cover parking, setbacks and various amenities.

“It’s going to affect people’s neighbourhoods a little bit and it gives an opportunity to increase the density, make Lumby that much more walkable and that much more green I guess in the sense that we’ll be making better use of our land.”

Acton says there are staff available to anyone who has questions.

Council will hold public meetings through the process.
