South Okanagan Fire Status

Jul 22, 2018 | 9:18 AM

Fire personable in the South Okanagan aggressively tackled flames on Saturday, as the weather provided more cloud cover and less wind than in recent days.

Noelle Kekula with the region’s complex incident team said that while some wildfires in the Okanagan stayed the same size overnight, others did grow slightly.

The number of properties under evacuation order or alert remains at nearly a thousand, as the fires continue to burn.

Kekula says the Mount Eneas fire, which spans about 13.7 square kilometres, is taking up a significant amount of resources to contain.

According to updates posted to the BC Wildfire Service’s website…after being held at 1,000 hectares for most of Friday, the Mount Eneas grew by 374 hectares in the evening,

Effective immediately, the Evacuation Order in the Brent Road area impacted by the Mount Eneas fire has been downgraded to an Evacuation Alert.

In addition, the Finlay Creek Cabins have been added to the Evacuation Alert.
