A house in Lumby has been damaged by a fire.

Fire chief Tony Clayton says the home on Shuswap Avenue, across from the RCMP detachment, was fully engulfed with flames coming out the windows when they arrived just after 10:30 this morning.

He says they doused the flames, but there was significant damage.

“Probably the back half of the house will be a complete write off,” Clayton tells Beach Radio News.

Clayton says the home owner was away at the time.

The cause is under investigation.

The fire chief says fortunately there was 20 to 30 feet between homes or it could have spread.

“There’s always is a fear of if, but our guys managed to get some protection on it, so it didn’t spread.”
