What Name Do You Hear?

Once again the internet is divided into two camps. Some people see a black and blue dress, while others see white and gold – but I’m not here to open up that debate again (white and gold, by the way)

Instead, I’m here to direct your attention to the latest debate tearing friends and family apart.

Is this voice saying “Yanny” or “Laurel?”

Some folks are trying to get in front of this train and share ways in which people can hear both names. I mean nobody wants to end up in therapy over this, right? They say if we take the audio and adjust the frequencies, we should be able to hear both “Yanny” AND “Laurel.” Those who are able to hear higher frequencies well (that is, folks who haven’t damaged their hearing over the course of their lives) will hear “Laurel.” Those of us (myself included) who have damaged our hearing over the years, and have lost the ability to hear those higher frequencies, tend to hear “Yanny”

I can only hear “Yanny.” The bits of audio below adjust the frequencies to help show the difference. I can only ‘kind of’ hear “Laurel” when I mouth the word along with the recording. Guess this means my hearing is shot.
