The story in The Guardian, says Troyer was admitted to hospital earlier this month after struggles with alcoholism. His family announced his death in a statement posted to Facebook and Instagram.

“It is with great sadness and incredibly heavy hearts to write that Verne passed away today,” the statement said.

In 2015, he told the Guardian he “grew up Amish, but my parents left the religion when I was a child”.

Troyer has stated all his family is average-sized, except for him.  Something that really didn’t bother him until a few years before high school.

The family did not confirm the cause of death but did issue this statement.   “Depression and suicide are very serious issues. You never know what kind of battle someone is going through inside. Be kind to one another.  And always know, it’s never too late to reach out to someone for help.”
