A new name has gone up on a well-used Vernon sports facility.

Vernon Toyota has signed a six year deal to sponsor the indoor soccer centre in Marshall Field.

The company’s sales manager, Kyle Johnson, says, for them, it’s all about giving back to the community.

“This is definitely the active lifestyle that we’re looking for. There is always lots of people involved in this building, and it’s just a really nice fit,” Johnson told CJIB News.

The centre’s manager, Kai Tolpinrud, says the funding will help pay for their programs.

“It’s $15,000 annually, which is a big help for us to help subsidize our programming indoors. To keep the kids training indoors, we need community support like this, and corporate sponsorship, and this has just been fantastic that they’ve stepped-up like this.”

Tolpinrud says about 33-hundred people use the facility.

“We’re about 22-hundred in the youth soccer system, and then we have adult leagues, co-ed leagues, women’s leagues and drop-in leagues.”

The centre — which is busiest from September to May — has been without a sponsor since a deal with Vantage One Credit Union ended last year.

Topinrud says Vantage One was their sponsor for 11 years.
