Fire Officially Out; Cause Probe Could Take Years

Aug 31, 2017 | 4:08 PM

The small fire that broke out Tuesday off Dixon Dam Road in the BX is officially out.

Personnel from the BX Swan Lake Fire department were checking for any remaining hot spots today, using a thermal camera.

Assistant fire chief Steve Hidasi says the cause still isn’t known.

“It’s still being investigated by the RCMP, Forestry and Natural Resources,” says Hidasi.

Officials have said the fire was likely human caused, and until proven otherwise, suspicious.

Jody Lucius, an information officer with the BC Wildfire Service, says investigations take some time to complete.

“It can take a year to two years for us to actually finalize all the paperwork around these,” she tells Kiss FM.
