Boat Launches Remain Closed

It will be a while before Greater Vernon’s boat launches will reopen.

Greater Vernon Advisory director Bob Fleming says Regional District of North Okanagan staff say the Paddlewheel Park facility on Okanagan Lake is still somewhat under water.

“It’s going to be a few weeks before our boat launches are open, and that’s just based on, the water has to go down far enough to be able to even inspect them for safety. And it looks like we’re at least two weeks away from that,” Fleming told Kiss FM.

Coldstream’s three launches on Kal Lake are also closed until further notice due to the high levels, which has been the case since late May.

GVAC director Gyula Kiss says the Kinloch launch in Coldstream will need to be rebuilt as it’s “in pieces.”

The provincial launch at Kekuli Bay is also closed.

The City of Vernon has kept some of its smaller launches open on Okanagan Lake.

The two lakes are still about 45 centimetres above full pool.

Okanagan Lake dropped 2.2 centimetres over the past 24 hours and is now at 342.927 metres above sea level while Kalamalka Lake decreased 1.1 centimetres and is now at 392.153 metres.
