Lumby Post Flood Meeting Tonight

Residents impacted by flooding in Lumby will have a chance to get some answers on the recovery process.

The village holds a meeting tonight with officials from Emergency Management BC, Disaster Finance Assistance, and the Red Cross.

Deputy chief administrative officer Jeremy Sundin says they expect to hear from people most affected by the village’s response activities.

“Most notably where we knocked down fences or removed sheds, that sort of thing. So those people are quite interested to find out when is there property going to be restored to the pre-response condition.”

Sundin says they will be appointing a fencing contractor this week.

“What day that fencing contractor starts or what day that fencing contractor gets to their property, we won’t be able to be that specific at this time, but at least we can update them that a fencing contractor has been selected.”

While most of the Lumby residents ordered out of their homes due to spring flooding have returned, two homes remain vacant.

Sundin says both are located in the mobile home park on Faulkner Avenue.

He says the tenants of one have moved to another community.

“I can’t say exactly why, but I would suggest that they weren’t going to deal with the required work in order to be able to occupy their home again, so they’ve left.”

The other impacted home has not addressed safety concerns.

Lumby residents affected by flooding can attend a information meeting with emergency agencies and officials at the White Valley Community centre at 5:30 tonight.
