Vernon Mayor Sees Less For The City From NDP

Jul 4, 2017 | 8:17 AM

Vernon’s mayor thinks the city may have to work a little harder to get to be noticed by an NDP government in Victoria.

Akbal Mund is giving the NDP the benefit of the doubt, but he knows since the riding is represented by Liberal Eric Foster, it won’t be high on the New Democrats priority list.

“It doesn’t hurt Vernon, but what it does do is when that money is given out by government Vernon will not be looked upon as one of the first to receive any.”

Mund says he doesn’t think Vernon will be ignored, but he can see grants and other support going to an NDP riding first.

Vernon-Monashee M-L-A Eric Foster hopes the New Democrats will remain as generous as he feels the Liberals were.

“I think that we tried to make sure that we spread the money around. We represented everybody, or tried to. So, we’ll see how it unfolds over the next little while. If that’s the case then we’ll have to hold the government to account for it.”

Foster says he’ll still be pushing everything he can for the community.
