Happy 150 Canada!

Jul 1, 2017 | 4:00 AM

People are putting on their Canada gear and celebrating the country’s 150th birthday today.

There are Canada Day activities in most local communities.

Vernon’s event in Polson Park runs from 10 am to 4 pm.

The day will be capped off with fireworks from Kin Beach on Okanagan Lake at 10:30 pm, with music simulcast on 107.5 Kiss FM.

Society president Dave Frost says they are trying to minimize parking issues near the lake.

“We are running a shuttle service from Marshall Field parking lot to a drop off area by Kin Beach. It will run continuously for the night, and will help ease up on the parking for that area,” Frost tells Kiss FM.

Frost says they will have more volunteers helping with clean-up of the fireworks, which was an concern last year.

“The Yacht Club will be working on the surface area of the water, picking up debris as they find it, while Innerspace has offered to help with under water clean-up.”

Armstrong, Lumby and Enderby are also putting on Canada Day events today.
