RDNO Urges Safety Canada Day Weekend

Jun 30, 2017 | 11:24 AM

The Regional District of North Okanagan is reminding residents and visitors to play it safe this long weekend.

The region is included in the Kamloops fire zone which has fire restrictions in place.

Campfires are allowed, but no more than a half- metre high and a half-metre wide.

In a statement, The RDNO notes that high water continues to create safety hazards at local recreational swimming areas, and urges caution around lakes and streams.

It says hidden debris beneath the water’s surface can create unexpected safety hazards, even for experienced swimmers.

The RDNO also advises that anyone thinking about setting off their own fireworks should know that private fireworks are strictly prohibited.

It urges people to attend the fireworks show at Kin Beach tomorrow night.
