Tree Danger Closes Dutch’s Campground

Jun 29, 2017 | 9:45 AM

Dutch`s Campground in Coldstream has had to shut down for safety reasons.

Owner Darren Dalgarno says some trees have come down this week along the creek.

It appears high water has undermined the root system.

“So we`re getting big trees falling just unpredictably with a small wind. So, I had to make the call for the safety of the campers to close abruptly to deal with the trees.

Dalgarno says he`s now in the process of getting a dangerous tree assessment done.

Campers in town for Funtastic and other events this weekend have had to move.`

“We were totally booked for Funtastic and it was a tough call financially to have everybody not come but the safety of the campers was a priority.“

O`Keefe Ranch opened its overflow for some of the campers.

Dalgarno isn`t sure where others are going.

Some of the monthly campers will stay but Dalgarno says they`ve been told they`ll need to make sure they stay out of the way work that will need to be done.

He says as many as 40 trees may be affected.

“With the sensitivity of the creek being there, I think some of them, they may be able to just top them, take some of the tops down, but there`s big live trees you would never guess were going to fall but they`re just dropping.“

Dalgarno doesn`t know how long the campground will be closed.

He`s apologizing to everyone for the inconvenience.
