Cawston Wildfire Grows

A wildfire burning near Cawston in the South Okanagan remains uncontained this morning.

The fire started yesterday afternoon in farmland area on the Blind Creek Reserve and spread quickly into the mountains,

As of last night, it had grown to 160 hectares.

An uninhabited shed was destroyed by the fire, but no other structures are in danger.

Smoke from the fire can be seen from Cawston and Highway 3.

Twenty-six firefighters along with two helicopters, air tankers and heavy equipment are being used to fight the fire.

An additional 20 firefighters are to arrive this morning to help.

The cause of the fire isn’t known.
