New Homeless Measures Proposed

Vernon council will be considering new measures to clamp down on homeless camps, at their meeting this afternoon.

Bylaws staff say there’s been additional camps and more homeless people in Polson Park, and at other parks and public places in the community.

Staff are suggesting time limits could be put on when sheltering is allowed, such as from 8 pm to 8 am.

Protective Services Manager Clint Kanester is also proposing a number of areas where overnight sheltering would not be allowed including Kal Tire Place, the Recreation Centre, the Civic Grounds, and Cenotaph Park.
