Kelowna-Mission M-L-A Steve Thomson is the new Speaker of the BC Legislature.

Clerk of the House Craig James announced that Thomson was the only member of the Liberal party to declare he wanted the job.

Thomson said he humbly thanks all members of the House for the honour.

He said he will endeavour at all times to carry out his duty with fairness and integrity.
