Art Gallery Official Likes Polson Park Idea

Jun 19, 2017 | 6:12 AM

Officials with the Vernon Art Gallery like the idea of using Polson Park as the site for a new art gallery and museum.

Executive director Dauna Kennedy-Grant says it has been talked about before.

“The Art Gallery has always been open to creative ideas. We have looked at that, and talked about that at one point. It’s a beautiful location in by the Arts Centre and the Science Centre. It would make a nice little hub there,” says Kennedy Grant.

Kennedy-Grant says the oval in the park would be a good location.”We’re certainly open to exploring different ideas. We still like the Vernon Flower Shop site (on 31 Ave) as well, so we’re open to discussion, and we just want to get things moving forward.”

The park site was recently suggested by city councillor Brian Quiring who feels it would also make the park busier, to reduce issues with homelessness.

Kennedy Grant says the process of getting a referendum on new facilities continues to be discussed as part of the new cultural plan.

“It is slowly moving ahead, and hopefully we will have some news soon.”

The gallery is part of an advisory team working to implement the new culture master plan.
