Okanagan & Kal Lakes Register Big Dips

Both Okanagan Lake and Kalamalka Lake are down again today..

Bruce Smith at the Emergency Operations Centre in Kelowna says the lakes recorded their biggest dips yet.

“Okanagan Lake was reported by Environment and Climate Change Canada to be at 343.218 which is about a 2 centimetre drop from yesterday and it looks like Kal Lake is down as well, about one and a half centimetres to 392.408 today.”

Both lakes are still well above full pool.

Okanagan Lake particularly has some work to do.

” Very much so. It’s about 70 centimetres above full pool, 29 inches roughly so there’s a lot of water that has to go down.”

Smith says it’s still too early to say if Okanagan Lake has peaked.

“We know that any substantial rainfall will see the levels go up again so we’re just saying right now it’s a pleasing sign.”

There is some rain in the forecast.

With strong winds due as well, people are advised to keep their sandbags and other flood defences in place.
