Okanagan Lake Drops After Weekend Rise
The level of Okanagan Lake is down from yesterday
Kirsten Jones with the Emergency Operations Centre says the level dropped slightly.
`About 8 millimetres since yesterday. So that is good news but it`s the kind of thing we expect, the number will go up and down while we`re continuing in this process.“
She says there is no longer concern about a snow pack. Any major changes now would be weather dependent.
“We are looking at periods of rain this week. That`s something we`ll watch. Also, anytime there is weather activity you really watch for wind. With the lake levels so high, wind can cause havoc on our barriers that are in place.“
That`s why she says, residents who did put barriers in place to keep them up for now.
What it comes down to now is more water going out than coming in.
“It`s continuing on its journey of course down south and that is something that we`ll see hopefully help with the level of the lake, lower it for us.
She says the lake levels will be different in some areas.
Kalamalka Lake also saw a decrease, down about 11 millimetres.
