Lake Country Seeks Input On OCP

The District of Lake Country is planning several community engagement sessions this summer as it looks to update its Official Community Plan.

The District`s Director of Community Services, Mark Koch says it`s all about community feedback.

One meeting last week had about 130 people turnout.

“Some of the feedback was obviously about the beautiful community that we live in. There were some points made about the importance of sidewalks, safe ways to get around the community. Some folks spoke about a pool as a possibility in Lake Country.“

Mark Koch says the sessions aren`t like a usual townhall meeting, making them looser to get people talking.

`I think we`ve all been to a number of those open houses that are a littler less than engaging, which is unfortunate, so with this event, we`re trying to do it differently with music, with a poet, different activities craft beer if that was your thing.“

He says people attending will find even a quirky way to get their thoughts across. Something he calls Frog Talk.

“Little bobblehead frogs that we have that come along with a set of questions, that we want people to sign out a frog, take it home and to ask these questions amongst themselves, friends, dinner parties, coffee parties whatever it may be.“

If people take a picture of themselves with their frog and bring in a receipt for pizza, the District will pay up to 50 dollars for the pizza.

Participants filled out comment cards with their suggestions, which will be reviewed later.
