Enderby Mayor Praises Outgoing Fire Chief
Enderby Mayor Greg McCune says Volunteer Fire Chief Kevin Alstad will be missed.
Alstad is leaving to take on a full-time position as a Deputy Chief in Sparwood.
McCune says Alstad has a great community spirit.
“It’s hard to find people that are legitimately true, cares for the community. A lot of people will volunteer to try get a pat on the back. He never needed that.”
McCune says Alstad would always go above and beyond outside the fire department as well.
He added that Kevin Alstad made sure firefighters in Enderby met the government’s new
certification standards from the get go.
“I think our firehall under Kevin’s leadership rallied, and they were probably one of the first ones in the province to attack that and get the certification they needed.”
McCune added that Alstad showed true leadership in getting firefighters through the death of firefighter Dan Botkin after an explosion at a construction site in 2011
It’s expected the position will stay as a volunteer chief.
Three current members are seeking to take over Alstad’s position including Cliff Vetter who will serve as the interim chief
