Lost Summer For Boating?

It’s anyone’s guess when boating may be able to resume on local lakes.

The high levels are expected to continue for several more weeks, and some of the boat launches will also need repairs before being safe to use again.

Coldstream’s chief administrative officer Trevor Seibel says the Kalavista Drive launch is in rough shape.

“The launch is actually under water. It’s been under water for several weeks. When we first closed it two to three weeks ago, one of the reason was that the launch was being submerged. It’s not even safe to get a boat in there,” says Seibel.

Seibel says the Kinloch Drive launch will also need some work after the dock broke off in a storm.

Seibel says the Kekuli Bay boat launch is being kept open by the province, but boating is not recommended

The levels of Kalamalka Lake are slowly starting to recede – but it’s still too soon to say if its peaked.

Seibel says the daily readings from Environment Canada have shown small decreases the last couple days.

“It’s starting to trend in the right direction, but it’s going to take a while before we see a noticeable improvement in the lake level.”
