River Forecast Centre Advisories And Snowmelt

The River Forecast Centre has issued various flood watches and stream flow advisories throughout the Okanagan.

Forecaster Dave Campbell says that’s due to rain and snow melt.

“Specifically have flood watches out on the Kettle River system and the Shuswap region.”

A high stream flow advisory continues for Mission Creek in Kelowna.

Campbell says rain and snow melt proved a perfect mix.

“The snow kind of got the rivers high and on the heels of that there’s not much space in many of the rivers and we got almost 20 millimetres of rain”

He says most most of the mid-mountain snow pack has melted, and the high mountain areas are getting there.

“So, it’s really just the high elevation stuff where there’s a bit hanging on, still left but I think we are starting to get to the point where seeing a lot less snow and it’s going to be less of an influence going forward.”

He thinks that while Okanagan Lake still isn’t expected to peak until mid June, the biggest issue will a by any combination of further snow melt and a weather event.
