Pit Bull Ban Request Rejected In Armstrong

May 29, 2017 | 5:57 AM

City Council in Armstrong has rejected a request by a citizen for a bylaw dealing with pit bulls.

Mayor Chris Pieper says it’s not necessary.

“We have a regulation that deals with dangerous dogs and so we aren’t going to try and work on one specific breed.”

Pieper says there are a few pit bulls in the city and they only have a problem with one that is being dealt with.

“It’s been referred to both of our bylaw enforcement, our dog control people. We’ve talked to the owner. I think we’ve got it under control as far as that goes.”

The Mayor notes that targeting a specific breed doesn’t always work.

“There’s a lot of communities that have tried to ban pit bulls and they end up in court. When we did our bylaw several years ago it was to deal with all dangerous dogs.”

Pieper says dangerous dogs can be any species and any size.
