Rainbow Crosswalk Celebration Event

The grand opening for Vernon’s rainbow crosswalk will be held tonight at 6 at the site on 30th Avenue.

Organizer Travis Irmen — who got the ball rolling on the project –says he’s heard nothing but positive comments.

“Once everyone sees that it wasn’t paid for by the city, that it was a private donation they seem to change their tune and they seem to really appreciate the crosswalk for what it is and what it stands for.”

Irmen hopes people will come out this evening to be a part of the event

“I just look forward to seeing the support from the community and seeing everyone out there welcoming this symbol of inclusivity into the community.”

Irmen says there will be entertainment and civic leaders in attendance.

“It will have live music by one of our local ladies. She has a beautiful voice and we’ll also hear a short speech from the Mayor at exactly six o’clock.”

For his part, Irmen says the eight colour crosswalk far exceeds his expectations.
