Oyama’s Tween Lakes Resort Battles High Water

May 26, 2017 | 12:12 PM

Tween Lakes Resort at the south end of Kalamalka Lake in Oyama is battling high water.

Manager Malcolm Uttley says the storm this week breached sandbags and the resorts docks are under water and damaged.

“We’re surrounded by water inside. Everything is covered. So, they haven’t entered the doorways yet of the trailers. We’ve had to raise bunk houses. Some trailers we’ve had to lift up.”

He says earlier reports 81 trailers had to be moved are wrong – none is being moved.

“Some trailers are on a higher ground than others. They’re up to their axles, definitely, some are a little higher, but they haven’t entered the doorways yet.”

The problem now is wakes from boaters are going through the channel.

” I had a boat go through here the other day and he broke the dike on the channel. I started yelling at him to stay away but he came through anyway. He turned to me when he went past me and said oh, you need more sandbags.”

He says boaters need to know they are doing damage and need to stay away.

On the upside, Malcolm says neighbours and area businesses have been helping out with sandbagging and supplies.
