RV Parking Change Sought
Vernon council will consider a request to change its bylaw covering recreational vehicles.
Don Friesen, representing some RV owners, made a presentation to council Tuesday, saying the current bylaw doesn’t permit RV’s longer than 29 feet to be parked at the side of homes, and he would like the limit removed.
“Our proposal is to change the RV bylaw that now reads any RV under 29 feet in length can be parked on Vernon property including on a driveway, and two RV’s of 29 feet can be parked on a driveway or anywhere on the property. Anything longer than that cannot be parked, and we would like to see that changed,” said Friesen.
Friesen says RV’s such as trailers, and motor homes, have a maximum length of 45 feet.
He says the change would keep longer RV’s from having to be parked on the street.
Mayor Akbal Mund thinks it’s a reasonable request.
“We should look at that. As long as you have it on the side of your home, and you’re not sticking out, I would say even 20 feet, then you’re fine. It doesn’t look bad,” Mund tells Kiss FM.
Council will discuss the request at a future meeting, once city staff have compiled some information on the issue.
