Coldstream Holds Off Digging Up Proposed Rail Trail Lot

Coldstream Council is considering holding back on plans to do some levelling work on property it bought north of Dutch’s campground.

Mayor Jim Garlick says soil tests found too much top soil.

“They dug down three feet and there’s three feet of topsoil. So we were thinking of levelling it out this year but if you did that without removing that topsoil first we’d just end up with a mess, especially with the wet spring that we’ve had.”

Garlick says there no sense in leaving a muddy mess and it’s unlikely people will be able to access the area for now.

The area is to be developed for a parking lot for the Rail Trail along with washrooms and signage.

” We will probably be keeping traffic off of there. We’re cleaning up the brush and everything and when we actually do the work next year then we will deal with that.”
