Lake Country Water Intakes Damaged By Creeks

May 17, 2017 | 11:43 AM

Lake Country Mayor James Baker is relieved an evacuation alert for dozens of properties in the District was lifted.

The alert was lifted last night by the Central Okanagan Regional District.

Baker says he’s still concerned about snow melt affecting Wood Lake.

There was some damage that has to be repaired now.

” Some of our infrastructure was compromised with the raging water on our intakes that we have to repair.”

Baker says the irrigation water supply is affected by that.

Now that the water is down, crews can get in to see how extensive it is.

” The force of the water just moved all of screens, all of our piping that started our distribution system into our intakes that come down from the uplands.”

While that’s being done, the Mayor is asking citizens to help

” We;’re asking people to go easy on their domestic water use because it’s all having to be pumped up from Okanagan Lake which is more costly.”

Water from Okanagan Lake will be used until the intakes are repaired.
