Highway Opens After Crash

May 17, 2017 | 1:52 PM

Update: 5 pm

Highway 6 was closed for several hours east of Lumby today, after a serious crash.

RCMP say a man in his 80’s crossed the centre line and hit an oncoming vehicle, a 2012 Toyota Prius, driven by a woman in her 60’s.

“The man was driving westbound in a grey pickup truck and may have been attempting to pass vehicles in the area of a sweeping right hand curve,” says Cpl. Dan Moskaluk.

The woman had to be removed with the Jaws of Life, suffering life-threatening injuries, and she was airlifted to hospital.

The man suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Both of the people involved were from the Lumby area.

Drive BC says the highway re-opened just before 5 pm.
