Vernon School Board Seeks Public Thoughts On Budget

Apr 18, 2017 | 8:22 AM

The public is invited to a meeting tonight to hear about the Vernon School Board’s 2017/18 budget plan.

Board Chair Kelly Smith says a large portion is tied up in wages and benefits while the rest deals with programs.

” There is a list but it’s a list that has been generated through management, through trustees
and now I really want the public to have a chance to come up with their ideas.”

Kelly says it’s important to hear from parents.

“Because they have the kids best interests and so do we at heart but it’s nice to hear from all different angles”
Wages and benefits make up about 87 per cent of the budget, but the rest is as important.

” So I’m talking about that very small portion that’s left over that can be used to expand programs, add new programs. So, that’s the part that’s called the Budget Adjustment Plan.”
You can see the Budget Adjustment Plan list on the School Board’s website.

The meeting tonight is at 6:30 in the library of Vernon Secondary School.
