Nominations Sought For Lake Country Byelections

Apr 13, 2017 | 6:35 AM

Nomination packages are now available for anyone thinking of running in two Lake Country byelections.

Byelections will be held in Oyama and Carr’s Landing for Ward Councillors June 24th.

Deputy Chief Elections Officer Wilene Perez says anyone can run and does not have to live in the jurisdiction but

” They have to be nominated by someone in either the Oyama or Carr’s Landing wards and bring in their packages.”

They must have the names of at least two nominators living in the Wards.

Perez says there is already some interest.

” We’ve had a few packages picked up already and we’ve had people calling and e-mailing for information so we hope we get a good number of candidates.”

The documents must be filed between 9 am May 9th and 4 pm May 19th.

The byelections are to fill vacancies due to the death of Oyama councillor Owen Dickie and the resignation of Matt Vader who took a District position.
