The recent pay raises granted to RCMP officers across the country, won’t come back to bite Vernon taxpayers.
” So we’ve been planning for it, putting some money aside for it so that it doesn’t get hit all at once, right. And it has no effect on the taxes this year, whatsoever.”
Acting Mayor Catherine Lord says just knowing in advance made it easier to plan
” We knew that the contract was under rerview and we have made allowances, so we have money in reserve for that, so that’s going to be covered by reserves.”
Officers will be getting pay hikes of 4.8%, which dates back to 2015.
The RCMP part of the city budget amounts to 7.8 million dollars, including paying for 50 regular officers.
