RDNO Waste Management And Compost Review

The Regional District of North Okanagan continues working on a review of its Waste Management Plan.

Funding is available for a stakeholder committee to look into various issues, including composting.

” That’ll happen hopefully in the next few weeks so they’ll come back to the board with proposals for how the thing is constituted and so on.”

Board Chair Bob Fleming says a consultant would be brought on board and the committee could include some regional directors directors and some interested commercial stakeholders.

Fleming says the District’s composting plan has been around for awhile, but it’s never had a provincial review

” So we’ve been operating without a plan for awhile, without an adopted plan. It just wasn’t
reviewed and approved by the province but that was just their sort of shortcoming.”

Fleming says it’s hoped the committee can have a final report ready in the fall.
