Vernon Business Demolition Begins Today

Apr 3, 2017 | 7:57 AM

Work will begin today to take down two city-owned buildings in downtown Vernon.

The former New Delhi Restaurant and Open Learning buildings will be demolished over the next 10 weeks, starting off with two weeks of removing hazardous materials.

Brett Bandy, the city’s real estate manager, says a Lower Mainland company will be in charge of the project.

He says everything will be recycled through a grinder set up at the landfill.

Bandy says the material will be used by the landfill at a layer of cover.

He says the city bought the properties in order to extend 25th Avenue with 27th Street some day.

That will be based on traffic needs.

For now, the area will be used as a parking lot.
