Earth Hour is Saturday Night
Earth Hour takes place tomorrow (Saturday) around the world.
Okanagan residents are encouraged to turn off and unplug any unnecessary lighting and electronics between 8:30 p.m.a nd 9:30 p.m. to conserve power.
BC Hydro’s Dag Sharman says they want people to think about conservation of electricity and they have a fun way to see how much you can save on your bills.
“If they do participate in Earth Hour customers can log on to www.bchydro.com and look at their account hour by hour so you could compare Earth Hour to the previous Saturday night and see how much you have saved”
The activity that is backed by BC Hydro is an effort to remind everyone to conserve energy, which in turn can save you money as Sharman points out.
“The average Canadian home has more than 25 electronic devices that use stand-by power and that can account for 10% of your average home’s bill, so unplugging those devices when they are not in use can make a big difference.”
