No Bullying Sign!

Feb 21, 2017 | 10:36 AM

Ever see a sign that strikes your eye and a chord?. Recently while at my daughter’s Sky Volleyball practice at Mission Hill Elementary, I was walking down a hallway and came across this sign. It resonated with me for so many reasons. As I child I was teased and picked on because I didn’t look a certain way. I can remember being on the bus and some of the kids saying I shouldn’t be allowed to be on the bus with them. They actually wrote a note about it, which I kept and told my Mother about. The parents of my schoolmates got a call from my Mom that night. Both kids apologized.

I sometimes think if I was a child now and went through that now, how would I respond? I also have two daughters who like so many other children have had to deal with a “bully”. So when I noticed this sign “No Bullying Here Rd”, I was interested to know the background behind this sign being put up at Mission Hill.

Today I chatted with Mission Hill Elementary School Principal Lynne Gibson. She said the sign was given to the school along with Pink Shirt Day packages a couple of years ago. The school wanted to put up the sign somewhere that the students would really notice it. The decision was to place the sign closest to the gym and the library as a subtle reminder to students to show respect to fellow classmates, students daily.
