Coldstream Interested in Dutch’s Campground
The District of Coldstream continues to push ahead with plans directly associated with the opening of the Okanagan Rail Trail.
The tourism committee is recommending temporary parking, signage and washrooms be established at the property the District is buying on Kalamalka Road north of Dutch’s Campground.
Councilor Glen Taylor heads up the Committee and says it would help the local neighbourhood with extensive use already happening for the trail.
“We’re already getting high uses on the Rail Trail and it’s not even open yet, so we need to come up with a plan on how to direct traffic and show people where they can park for the day and utilize the trail.”
Taylor says another recommendation is to explore opportunities to perhaps purchase Dutch’s Campground by the District to also support the trail.
It would provide added access and present other possible business opportunities for Coldstream according to Taylor.
“There’s going to be a connecting link from the trail the City of Vernon is going to be putting in. From there we have to be able to connect to the rail trail so we’ve still got some work to do to sort out how we are going to connect from that piece of property.”
“I don’t know what is available with that piece of property. There is a creek that runs through it so I don’t know what the long term plan would be if we were to acquire that piece of property.”
