Local city halls to close for Queen’s funeral

Sep 14, 2022 | 12:21 PM

The District of Coldstream and the City of Kelowna will both close their municipal halls Monday.

The closures align with the one-time national holiday to mark the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on Sept. 19.

Coldstream is rescheduling its committee of the whole meeting to Tuesday, Sept. 20. The municipal buildings will open Tuesday.

Kelowna’s city council meeting scheduled for Monday has been cancelled and will be rescheduled. The public hearing in Kelowna planned for Tuesday will proceed as planned, as city hall reopens Tuesday.

Kelowna’s Glenmore Landfill will be open regular hours, and the Parkinson Recreation Centre will be open with adjusted holiday hours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetary administration office will be closed Monday, but the cemetery gates will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Flags will continue to fly at half-mast to mark the mark the Queen’s passing.

An online book of condolences has been launched by the federal government for people to sign.

As of time of publication, it is not known if other area municipalities will close city halls Monday.
