Cadet Graduation At Vernon Army camp

This is the final week for the Vernon Cadet Training Centre that has seen 15-hundred individuals take programs this summer.

Captain Morgan Arnott says 369 cadets graduate from their six- week instructor level courses this morning.

“Most of these cadets who attend the six week courses have finished three or more years in the cadet programs. These are more specialty courses and quite often the following summer they’ll actually be back at the training centre working as staff cadets.”

She says the cadets have gone through various activities.

“Whether that be drill and ceremonial, music, air rifle marksmanship, expedition. So these cadets have been at the training centre for six weeks and are going advance training thiose various areas.”

Captain Arnott says it’s been en eventful summer.

“We have had some high profile visits such as the Minister of National Defence. We also had a visit from the Commander of Canadian Canadian Cadet and Canadian Junior Rangers, Brigadier-General Woiden, who is actually originally from the Vernon area.”

The final event will be the Sunset Ceremony Thursday night at Dieppe Square which is expected to involve 600 cadets.
