JACKSON, Graeme “Barry”, age 91, passed away in Vernon on October 25, 2026 due to complications from a fall. Barry was born in Vancouver. As a young child, his family lived all over Canada, following his father’s work as a traveling salesman. His parents Harold and Ann predeceased him in the early 1950’s. Barry’s strong work ethic and drive for success and excellence were formed by his need to provide for himself at an early age. Barry was involved in construction, land development and real estate for many years, primarily in North and West Vancouver. He was also involved in development projects in Whistler and Cabo del Sol, Mexico. His most recent ventures were construction and land development at Sparkling Hill. One of the biggest challenges was moving an extremely old building (built in 1587!) from Weerberg, Austria onto the grounds and rebuilding it as an amazing rustic restaurant – “Gerni’s Farmhouse”. He never slowed down and was still working and passionate about his latest projects until the very end.
Barry obtained his private pilot’s license in the early 1960’s, which led to a lifelong passion for flying. He was the owner of many planes (more than we can count), rebuilt multiple planes (some at the house!) and enjoyed sharing his love of flying with others. Barry was an enthusiastic participant in COPA for Kids. He was a longtime member and past president of the Vernon Flying Club and previous member of the Kelowna Flying Club. Barry was always open to new adventures. He and Cheryl travelled – by cruise ship around the world (among others), plane and motorhome. Cruises were a source of great enjoyment, leading them to Antarctica and other corners of the earth.
Barry and Cheryl lived in West Vancouver, Whistler, Los Cabos and Scottsdale. They moved to Vernon about 24 years ago. He is survived by his loving wife Cheryl, his children Randy (Mireya) and Barb (Mike), Cheryl’s sons Patrick (Cynthia) and Kelly, 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, sister Sharon and his beloved Miniature Schnauzer “Rico”. He will be sorely missed by all. Barry was a great friend to many and truly loved time spent with his friends and family. The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at Kelowna General Hospital and Vernon Jubilee Hospital, as well as Dr. Bill Lemiski, for their care of Barry. There are no planned services at this time. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Kelowna General Hospital or Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
