Kal Road Work In Coldstream Almost Done

Jul 17, 2018 | 7:08 AM

Motorists won’t have to put up with delays on Kalamalka Road in Coldstream much longer.

The District’s Chief Administrative Officer, Trevor Seibel, says work to add a multi-use path from the Alpine Centre to College Way is nearing completion, with paving on that section scheduled for this week.

“When that’s done, the road and path work will be finished and they’ll be off into the parking lot side of things to finish that off.”

The parking lot under development just south of the Alpine Centre, will be able to accommodate about 80 vehicles for people using the Okanagan Rail Trail.

“The next step will be to look at some of the amenities that we want to have built in there, so the issue of washroom facilities, signage, that kind of stuff,” says Seibel.

Seibel says the site is seen as the starting point for people using the trail, instead of the current site by Kickwillie Loop.

“It won’t eliminate the Kickwillie area, but it should help provide some relief for people to be able to utilize the existing multi-use path infrastructure to get on to the rail trail by parking on the Kal Road site.”

Seibel says the new parking lot, which will be kept as gravel for the time being, could open by mid August.
