Rail Trail Donation Signs Coming Down

The Okanagan Rail Trail is moving into its next phase.

Donation signs are coming down now that the goal of raising $7.8 million to complete the trail has been met.

The campaign began just over two years ago as people from Kelowna, Lake Country, Okanagan Indian Band, and the North Okanagan along with the federal and provincial governments, and a community of trail supporters came together to create a trail legacy which will officially open this fall.

Government agencies to volunteer Trail Ambassadors worked on various projects from galas to lemonade stands, and drawing in large and small donations from trail supporters to finish the trail.

Nearly 5000 individual donors, 62 Business Partners, 43 Campaign Partners, and 45 Trail Ambassadors made the trail happen

Donors will be recognized on the website: www.okanaganrailtrail.ca, and on signs along the trail to be installed next year.

The newly formed Okanagan Rail Trail Committee is now responsible for coordinating further development, management, and communications for the trail corridor.

The committee is comprised of government staff representatives from Coldstream, Vernon, North Okanagan Regional District, Lake Country, Okanagan Indian Band, and the City of Kelowna.

One final fundraising event will occur this weekend.

The Vernon Silver Star Rotary hosts it’s third annual Rotary Ride supporting the Okanagan Rail Trail.
