BC Hydro Working Hard to Power Up Remnants Of Storm Damage

Jun 26, 2018 | 10:57 AM

BC Hydro is still working to restore power to customers knocked out by the wind storm that ripped through the Southern Interior, including the Okanagan, early yesterday morning.

Hydro’s Dag Sharman more than 45 thousand customers were without power at the peak of the storm.

That’s down now to 2300.

“The largest area of customers who still don’t have power is on the west side of Okanagan Lake. There’s a group of customers there along Westside Road where there was significant damage to our equipment.”

Poles and transfers were brought down along with 30 spans of wire.

“Three kilometres of wire and that’s three phases, so that’s a total of nine kilometres of wire that were down approximately and all kinds of equipment damage associated with that.”

Sharman says it’s a mammoth task to repair the damage.

Hydro hopes to have most, if not all customers affected there back on by this evening.

Sharman says there are a lot of areas with small pockets of outages including Vernon, Salmon Arm, Revelstoke, West Kelowna and Nakusp.
