A man faces potential charges after being found asleep behind the wheel with a weapon in the vehicle.

At around 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, RCMP received reports of a man asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle in Lumby.

Police attended the scene at the intersection of Birch Road and Mable Lake Road, and upon approaching, the responding officer spotted what looked like the barrel of a long gun sticking out of the rear driver side window.

The officer managed to safely remove and secure the 12-gauge shotgun before waking the driver, who appeared to be intoxicated. Police said he subsequently blew over the limit during a breathalyzer test.

RCMP said the man faced potential firearm-related charges and was issued a three-day roadside prohibition. The vehicle, which was uninsured, was towed and impounded.

The man was released from custody pending further investigation.
