Armstrong Rejects Multi-Family Housing On Wetland

Jun 26, 2018 | 9:50 AM

Armstrong Council has rejected a developer’s plan for multi-unit housing in a wetland area.

Dozens of people turned out for a public hearing last night to voice their disapproval to the proposal for 3730 Okanagan Street between Armstrong Co-op and Colonial Farms.

Mayor Chris Pieper says they delivered a passionate plea.

“They had a very strong presentation on just preserving the value of the wetlands. There was also comments on having a residential area right between an industrial zone off Colonial Farms.”

Pieper says the development would have provided some desperately needed rentals but the environmental concerns won out.

“There are regulations how you can build, where you can build if its properly engineered but that does involve destroying a wetland.

Pieper says the developer could still build on the property, but only one house and would have to come back to council with a new plan.
